Rhondda Cynon Taf local lockdown - closure of our rescue centre to visitors

Many of you will have seen the news that Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) county borough will be going into a local lockdown from 6 pm on Thursday 17 September. We have therefore made the decision to close our rescue centre to the public until further notice.

This local lockdown will have the following impact on services:

Volunteers

Regrettably, we will once again have to close to volunteers at the centre, even those from RCT, as we need to minimise the number of individuals on site. We appreciate this will be disappointing but hopefully this situation won’t be for too long.

Donations

We will be unable to accept any donations of charity shop items or items for the dogs. However, we would however welcome gifts from our Wishlist which can be found in our online shop

Fostering and Adoption

The lockdown will mean that we’re unable to conduct appointments for dog meets at our centre. We will once again be returning to the system of dropping off foster and adopted dogs and undertaking introductions in outside spaces.

This will inevitably slow down both the foster and adoption processes, and the number of dogs this amended process will suit will be limited. As a result of the changes, our small staff team will once again be spending a lot of time out on the road so please be patient and bear with us. Our adoption application process is already on hold until the beginning of October due to the huge backlog of applications.

Intake

Our stray dog services for RCT CBC, Bridgend CBC and Vale of Glamorgan (West) will remain unchanged and we will still be able to accept out of hours strays from the public as travel for this purpose is within the exemptions i.e. to access a public service.

If you are dropping off or collecting a stray dog, please ensure you ring ahead to let us know what time you are arriving and also that you wear a face covering before entering the site.

We will still be able to accept owner surrenders but we will need to collect them. This will have an impact on staff time, so please bear with us if we take longer to answer your queries.

Thank you so much everyone for your continued support, patience and understanding.
