We have some really positive news in respect of our petition to the Welsh Government to ban greyhound racing in Wales. In the Senedd yesterday (15th February), the Minister for Rural Affairs confirmed that bar one recommendation, she supported the recommendations from the Petitions Committee. This includes a recommendation “that Welsh Government action should include a phased ban on greyhound racing in Wales”. The Minister further announced that there would be a debate on the recommendations from the Petitions Committee on 8th March 2023, and this would be followed by a consultation.

Whilst we haven't yet reached the final bend, this is a major milestone for the #CutTheChase campaign in Wales, a coaltion of leading animal welfare organisations including Hope Rescue, Greyhound Rescue Wales, RSPCA, Blue Cross and Dogs Trust.

Hope Rescue's Amazing Greys partnership project at Valley Greyhound Stadium in Ystrad Mynach lifted the lid on major welfare concerns for greyhounds racing in Wales. Our petition was signed by over 35,000 dog lovers, and we are so grateful to everyone who took the time to sign.

A huge thank you to Jack Sargeant MS and the Petitions Committee for their hard work, and to all the dog loving Senedd Members who have so passionately supported the campaign. We look forward to the day that Wales leads the way in truly protecting racing greyhounds, and we see an end to this dangerous sport.
