Mia, as we have named her, is a beautiful Staffordshire bull terrier cross, who was found in Pen-y-fai, Bridgend, on the morning of Monday 8th April.

We estimate that she is around 2 years old, and were horrified and heartbroken by the appalling condition she was in.

Urgent action

She was rushed straight to the vets, and only weighs 10kg, less than half the weight she should be.

Mia is also suffering from an eye infection, is crawling with fleas and has painful sores over her body.

She is not microchipped, and we have had no reports of a dog straying for a while in the area or had a lost dog report matching Mia's description.

We are appealing for any information as to how Mia came to be in this condition - please call us on 01443 226659, or message via our Facebook page

Her first night with Hope Rescue

We have been so touched by the outpouring of support for Mia.

Thank you to everyone who has donated and sent kind words. It has meant a huge amount to our team who have all been left angry and upset by Mia's case.

Mia spent last night at the vets, due to her low temperature and anaemia. She is having some further tests as there is a concern she isn't able to absorb nutrients properly. The good news is that she is bright and eating.

Despite the suffering she has endured she is such a sweet and friendly character. We are hopeful that she will be well enough to be discharged back to us in a few days but, for now, we know she is receiving the best possible care. We will update you on her progress over the coming days. ❤️

Update on day 4

Mia is still receiving excellent care at the vets and they say she has been lovely with everyone she meets.

Test results so far show that her liver function is normal which is very good news.

We will have to wait a little longer to hear the results of her absorption tests, but she is receiving vitamin supplements in the meantime.

Mia will stay at the vets currently, but we will be seeking a quiet, dog-free foster home for her very soon.

Mia leaves the vets

We’re delighted to say that Mia left the vets on Tuesday (16th), having received wonderful care.

As you can see from her photos, she was back at Hope Rescue to see the team and was the centre of attention.

In spite of all she has been through, Mia greets everyone with a waggy tail and is a gentle soul.

Her next stop is her new foster home, where she will continue her recovery.

Mia’s story has touched everyone, and we have been inundated with messages and enquiries about her progress. The kindness and support shown to Mia and to us over the last week has made a huge difference.

Thank you.
