South Wales dog welfare charity, Hope Rescue, is appealing for information after a litter of six lurcher puppies was found abandoned in a filthy cardboard box.

A member of public made the shocking discovery in Smilog Lanes, near Pontyclun, and kindly took the puppies to Hope Rescue. They are now being checked by a vet, but the team are also concerned for the welfare of the mum and dad.

Vanessa Waddon, Senior Head of Operations, said,

“The puppies were in a very poor state when they were found but are now receiving the care they need and we’re hopeful they will make a full recovery from their ordeal. We’re appealing for anyone with more information about the dogs to contact us in confidence.

Hope Rescue is facing significant pressure on its resources and funds as the cost-of-living crisis and rising bills creates a perfect storm for animal welfare.

Vanessa Waddon continues,

“Sadly, this case provides a devastating example of the welfare crisis we are facing at the moment, and weathering the perfect storm is becoming more and more rocky. As a charity, both capacity and rising costs are a very serious concern for us right now. Our vet bills alone are predicted to be over £300,000 this year, but we remain committed to doing all we can, as we are the last hope for many of the most vulnerable dogs in our local community”.
