About us News Coronavirus Important information about the Coronavirus outbreak and how it will impact the work of Hope Rescue, including stray dog service, on-site operations, volunteering, fostering and adoptions. In response to the latest Government advice we have changed our operating procedures to protect our staff, volunteers, the public and of course, the welfare of the dogs in our care. Last updated - Monday 23 March 2020 at 1400 PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE RESCUE CENTRE The rescue centre is now closed to the public. Please do not visit. to minimise the risk of transmitting Coronavirus. Hope Rescue boarding kennels are closed until further notice in order to increase capacity for rescue dogs. Grooming by Posh Paws is suspended until further notice. If you have an urgent query, please call the rescue centre on 01443 226 659. STRAY DOGS Stray dogs found in Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC, Bridgend CBC and the Vale of Glamorgan (West) can only now come in to us via the dog warden service. If you find a stray dog please ring the appropriate council number: Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC - 01443 425001Bridgend CBC - 0300 123 6696Vale of Glamorgan (West) - 0300 123 6696 The only exception for out-of-hours strays will be those that require urgent veterinary assistance and we will make the necessary arrangements for them to be admitted straight to our vets. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Deliberately abandoning dogs if they need to be rehomed will put their lives and the lives of other dogs at risk. OWNER SURRENDERS The Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is dynamic and developing rapidly. At Hope Rescue we are developing our contingency plans to ensure that we look after the health and well-being of our staff and volunteers, whilst also ensuring the welfare of our rescue dogs is not compromised. Our plans take into account the impact of likely staff and volunteer availability, supplier issues, the financial impact of the charity shop closure, falling boarding income and likely cancelled fundraising events. As a result, we have taken the decision to close intake for routine owner surrenders. We have a couple of dogs we have already committed to take and we will honour that commitment. However, with immediate effect, we will no longer be able to take in dogs from the public other than those admitted through our stray dog contracts. Please DO NOT pretend your dog is a stray, as that will not help the situation at all. We would ask that you contact other local rescues and be prepared to go on their waiting lists. We hope you understand our decision. It's a time when we have to make difficult but measured decisions to ensure we can weather this unprecedented storm and ensure our sustainability for the longer term. FOSTERING AND ADOPTION It is with great sadness that we have taken the decision that with effect from Tuesday 24 March, we are ceasing all new adoption and fostering activity to limit the amount of people on site. This is to protect our staff and to ensure we can safely maintain our operations looking after the dogs in our care. We will, of course, support those foster homes with foster dogs within the relevant Government guidelines and with enhanced biosecurity measures in place. FUNDRAISING AND EVENTS All fundraising events are postponed until further notice. This is an extremely difficult and unprecedented time for our charity. Our staff and volunteers are under intense pressure so please remember to be kind when interacting with us. It is also a very challenging time for us financially with no charity shop, boarding or event income coming in. We’ve had over half of our income wiped out in one fell swoop. If you are able to make a donation then please do - we haven't ever needed your help more. We are doing everything we can to ensure the future sustainability of our rescue but it is a mammoth task.
