Brave Sid - 13 week old lurcher puppy with a broken leg

Sid recently came into our care from a local vets with a broken leg. The orthopaedic vet recommended an operation to repair the leg and give him the best outcome.

This week he went into theatre and had an external fixator fixed to hold the pins in place. He is now on crate rest and will be going back to the vets for regular checks and dressing changes before the pins are started to be removed in three weeks. Keeping a Lurcher puppy amused whilst on crate rest will be a real challenge for his foster family!

Latest update on our charity shop project

Our offer on a shop in Taff Street, Pontypridd has been accepted and we have instructed solicitors. The property is located in a prime location with a good footfall. It has plenty of space downstairs for both a retail shop and a drop-in Information Centre where the public can find out more information about our work. We have the same amount of space upstairs to develop a volunteer meeting area as well as plenty of space for sorting the stock, a Managers office etc.

On the road...

We have finally managed to get our new van sign written and we think it looks amazing! The graphics feature two of our happily rehomed dogs - Boo and Millie. We are so grateful to the PawPrint Charitable Trust for their £15k donation which enabled us to buy the van, and also to the Marchig Animal Welfare Trust and Monmouthshire Building Society for their donations.

Sapphire's Story

Sapphire, a young lurcher with horrific burns, has received treatment at Summerhill Vets in Newport and will soon move to a foster home where she can continue to recover from her terrible ordeal and receive the treatment she needs.

The appeal to help fund the expensive treatment and ongoing care that Sapphire needs was launched on Monday evening via social networking sites. The original target was to raise around £1500 to cover the costs of her treatment which would potentially also include skin grafts.

Box clever and get your bullbreed neutered for free

Former WBO light-heavyweight boxing champion Nathan Cleverly has thrown his weight behind our campaign to provide free neutering for Bull Breed dogs in the SA postcode areas. Hope Rescue is offering free neutering and spaying for any Bull Breed or Bull Breed cross - applications must be received by end May. This offer applies to all Bull Terrier, Mastiff and Bulldog types and crosses. The offer is open to all households irrespective of income.

Ness and her flight of fancy

Our intrepid Chair of Trustees undertook an amazing challenge to raise funds – nothing like leading from the front (or rather from the air!).
Vanessa (Ness) took to the skies above Sussex in an small ex-military aircraft (appropriately called a Bulldog!) to do aerobatics - looping the loop and all manner of hair raising stunts - to raise much-needed funds for our Sensory Garden.
Thankfully we can report that she not only survived the flight without any panics or air sickness, but she loved every minute of it!

Going the extra mile for Hope

One of our amazing supporters, Jo, has just undertaken a challenge, the scale of which cannot be overstated! She has just completed the Deloittes Ride across Britain (RAB) – a staggering 896 miles in just 9 days. For Jo, who only took up cycling less than two years ago, this was a once-in-a-lifetime venture, one of those bucket list things. And she did it all to raise money for Hope Rescue.

We need interior design expertise

Our search for a location to set up our very first charity shop has made great progress. We have found a premises in Pontypridd, and it looks as if it could meet all of our requirements. Although we have some very clear ideas of how we want it to look and feel, we will need some professional help to make those ideas a reality.
Are you an interior designer or do you know someone who would be able to help us? This project will be a stretch for us so if possible, we would be very grateful if the advice could be pro bono, or at very minimal cost.
