The Summer rush is here!

Summer holidays are always just as busy for rescues as Christmas. Although it’s not obvious why that is the case, we think part of the reason could be that some owners literally discard their dogs while they go away on holiday. It is something that we need to be ready to respond to every year.

Sadly, this also coincides with our summer kennels crisis when the private boarding kennels we use are busy with clients and space available for us becomes limited, so it is a really stressful time for us. Our hard working team struggles to juggle kennel spaces, rescue spaces and foster placements.

All but one of the dogs you see here came into our care recently as strays from Local Authority pounds. Even though we are under incredible pressure with kennel spaces, once again we ensured that no-one got left behind in the three pounds we commit to - irrespective of age, breed or medical condition. We are also under considerable financial pressure with the clutch being replaced on one of our transporting vans, at a cost of over £1,000, which was a huge expense we could have done without.

At times when money is so tight and demands for our support keep growing, we would really appreciate any and all donations to our Kennel Fund. As we do not have our own rescue centre we rely on private boarding kennels to keep our dogs safe until a foster home or rescue place can be found. Our boarding kennel costs are our biggest expense - a staggering £74,000 last year.
