Giving Hope to the Dogstar Dogs

The Trustees and Rescue Manager from Hope Rescue are taking a busman's holiday and are flying out to Sri Lanka on June 18th to volunteer for their friends at Dogstar Foundation.

There is little or no animal welfare protection in Sri Lanka with over a million stray dogs at risk from poisoning and relocation from tourist areas. Rabies is also endemic which has a significant impact on human health and well-being. Owned dogs do not fare much better and are often permanently chained or kennelled.

Dogstar works closely with local communities to provide humane dog population management through mass rabies vaccination and neutering programmes, improving veterinary practice and providing education programmes. This scientific and evidence-based approach to tackling the welfare problems at source is why we support them.

Since they started in 2006 Dogstar have undertaken an incredible 12,409 spay/neuter operations and 20,161 rabies vaccinations. We are now asking our wonderful supporters at Hope Rescue to help fund some of the work that will be carried out while we are there with Dogstar. Even a £1 donation really will make a difference:

£1 will pay for a rabies vaccination

£1 will pay for a worming tablet

£2 will pay for a microchip

£4.85 will treat a dog for fleas and ticks

£7.50 will pay for a tube of flea/mange treatment for 2 dogs

£15 will pay for a spay/neuter

All donations will go directly towards helping the dogs - the Hope Rescue team are funding their trip themselves. Donations can be made via Justgiving.

Or you can text DSTR 66 and an amount of £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070.

There will be regular updates from Sri Lanka so you will be able to see exactly where your donations go.

Thank you!
