Lost and Stray Dogs

Hope Rescue is now working in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC to help lost and stray dogs in the borough, using our rescue centre kennels in Llanharan.

The Council continues to employ Animal Wardens and if you need to report a lost or stray dog for collection, please call the Council’s Call Centre on 01443 425001.

The first time a dog is caught straying, the Animal Wardens will try to trace the owners and return it. On finding the dog is micro-chipped but has incorrect ownership details, the dog will stay at the Hope Rescue Centre in Llanharan and the appropriate fee will be charged if the dog is reclaimed. If the dog found is not micro-chipped, an additional cost will be added to cover the cost of micro-chipping, which is now a legal requirement for all dogs.

Strays will be kept safely for up to 7 days with us at our centre or returned to their owners in line with the appropriate kennelling charges - see link below.

Your dog will only be returned to you if you:

  • can provide proof of ownership – eg microchip registration form, photgraphic evidence, vet records etc.
  • pay the appropriate kennel charge – see link to kennel fees below.

If you want to check if we have your dog at our centre, you can contact us directly on 01443 226659.

Any dogs not reclaimed after 7 days will move into the ownership and care of Hope Rescue and we will seek to rehome them.

Our kennels are open:

  • Monday - Friday: 9.00am to 5pm
  • Arrangements can be made for collection of dogs outside normal working hours – call 01443 226659

Details of the fees that apply can be found on the RCT CBC website here.

(PLEASE NOTE: additional charges may apply if the dog requires vaccination or any vet treatment)
